Customer Rating: Summary: A Story worth reading Comment: This is a compelling account of a furious conflict that few people today know ever existed, though it was as recent as Vietnam and Korea. The undocumented nature of the Algerian side obviously cripples Horne somewhat and the gaps are obvious. Nevertheless, almost miraculously in the face of such a one-sided record, he seems to be able to present a coherent version. Above all it is greatly readable. The pages fly by. If there ever was a criticism it is that occasionally the author, who lived at the time of these events, seems to think that other people also have, and that they would automatically identify unexplained hints he drops here and there. But these are details.
